Label TextThis work was a collaboration with the wind to record its invisible form. By tying strings to tree branches and taping pens at the end of the strings, the wind’s energy force left its markings on paper that was weighted on the ground. Two major wind events in Southern California were recorded: the Santa Ana Conditions, or Off-shore Flows when winds are hot, dry, and gusty, originating inland and pushing off-shore, and the On-shore Flows that originate from the Pacific Ocean and force high winds onto the coastal areas. Often, these collaborations involved enduring long hours, sometimes 17 or more in a day in the wind effect to complete the drawings. The date, time spent, and type of air flow for each drawing became the titles.
