Label TextA hidden sanctuary comes alive with a tranquil spirit in this blue-hued work. The central pool serves as a focal point, with the reflection of its arched frame creating a circle of opportunity, opening the door to Ray’s musings as captured in a June 2016 entry to her sketchbook where she contemplated it as a birth canal, “a source of spiritual succor,” or “the iris of the world’s eye opening.” Her work suggests a gateway to another world, a passage to a greater place further within. This work captures the core of Ray’s belief in the cohesion of all living things, displaying how natural forms can symbolize spiritual and emotional journeys.
