BiographyBruce Nauman is an American artist known for the innovative and provocative nature of his work. He was born in 1941 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and obtained his Mater of Fine Arts at the University of California, Davis. In 1970, Nauman taught at the University of California, Irvine. He produces artwork across various media, including video, sculpture, performance, and printmaking; he actively avoids a characteristic style and often subverts his own process. A few of his early prints from the 1970s, such as Untitled (Salmon Pink), take on an introspective tone compared to his more political work of the time, yet the spatial geometry is no surprise: Nauman has long studied the structure and logic of mathematics and physics. Nauman exhibits extensively around the world, and his work is included in many public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
