BiographyArtist Soo Kim was born in South Korea in 1969 and moved to Los Angeles in 1980. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio art from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Her photographs are characterized by a heavy use of cutting and layering, which creates new spaces and areas of absence within the works. The resulting art has a three-dimensional feel that pulls the viewer’s eye deep into the composition. Kim’s work has been exhibited at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Pasadena Museum of Fine Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the National Center for the Arts, El Salvador, and the Gwangju Biennale in Korea. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles as an artist, writer, and curator; she is also the Program Director of Photography at Otis College of Art and Design.
