Label TextThe woman before you, unflinchingly bare, seems to hold untold secrets within her naked form. This painting contains layers of vulnerability that reveal themselves slowly to the viewer. For Ray, everything was related to the body. As a survivor of sexual abuse, she spent years healing and reclaiming her sense of self. As a Queer woman, she grew to embrace her sexuality and enjoy the female form in her own and other’s bodies. The identity of the woman depicted remains unknown; she could be a lover, a friend, or perhaps even a surrogate for Ray herself.
