BiographyEdith Bauman was born in 1948 and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her works focus heavily on pattern and color: she aims to imitate nature in the sense that the world is full of over-arching, collective patterns. Art critic Frances Colpitt once said of Baumann’s work, “In her paintings, color is radiant, monochromatic fields breathe, and crisp edges quiver almost imperceptibly.” Deceptively minimal, the longer the eye lingers on her compositions, an array of colors emerge, vibrate, and disappear. Baumann has exhibited in galleries throughout California, as well as galleries in China and Germany. She currently lives and works in Santa Monica.
